Apple today expanded the universal search functionality in tvOS for the fourth generation Apple TV to include nine new channels. The list of new channels that now support universal search in tvOS 10 include History, Lifetime, Travel Channel, Food Network, FYI, Cooking Channel, A&E, FYI, HGTV, and DIY.
The universal search feature in tvOS on the fourth generation Apple TV allows users to search for content from across various sources using Siri. This way, Apple TV 4 owners are saved from the hassle of individually opening the application of each channel and then finding the content that they want to watch.
Since its launch last year, Apple has been expanding the number of content providers that it supports through the universal search feature in tvOS. In February itself, the feature gained support for 7 new channels.
Universal search support on Apple TV 4 is only available to a handful of content providers, with the feature mainly being useful in the United States. Outside of the US, universal search support in tvOS is only supported by Netflix and iTunes movies and TV shows that largely make the feature useless.
