Apple Pay Adds Support for Prepaid Cards in the UK with Wirecard’s Boon

Apple Pay officially launched in the United Kingdom back in July of last year, but bank support hasn’t been necessarily speedy.

For instance, Barclays, one of the largest banking entities in the region, only just launched support for Apple’s mobile payment option in April of this year. There are still some in the UK that can’t use Apple Pay because their bank doesn’t support it, but there’s a solution for those that really want to try the mobile payment option.

Wirecard’s Boon mobile payment app now officially supports Apple Pay in the UK. With Boon, those in the UK can use the mobile payment app to load up a prepaid MasterCard and load it into the Wallet app. From there, they’ll be able to use Apple’s secured mobile payment option as a means to checkout.

Boon was restricted to Android devices not too long ago, so the addition of iOS support could be big news for those without their bank’s support when it comes to Apple Pay.
